Topic: Distributed Clock Synchronization using NTP (Network Time Protocol). The details of this topic are: Many distributed algorithms require precise clocks that run in sync. For this purpose, distributed clock synchronisation algorithms have been invented. The most famous one is NNTP, which runs on most computers connected to the internet. It is based on clock servers and measures the average delay of internet packets travelling between an NNTP participant and its clock server. Despite internet packet delivery being very jittery, NNTP enables very precise synchronisation. A project could investigate distributed clock synchronisation algorithms and measure how they perform in practise. So basically, I have to develop an algorithm for clock synchronization using NTP The method which I am applying is : I was planning to simulate clients and servers in my laptop and then i planned look for relationships between the parameters (e.g. network jitter, time between two packets) and precision of the synchronisation algorithm. A SIMPLE SOLUTION: 1) The simpler alternative is to set up a simple server on one of the machines (designated the "time master" or "time lord" or something), that tells a client what its time clock says. Then the clients just get the time from the client, and set their clock to it. (The snag is that things can go wrong if the "time lord" machine's clock drifts or if gets set to a bogus value somehow.)
